Delicious Dairy Free Hot Chocolate
Hot Chocolate is a staple in every kid's childhood, even the coldest winter days can be solved with a cup of hot chocolate upon arriving home from school. I have to say I really used to honestly be a Swiss Miss powder hot chocolate kind of gal, it was easy, quick, and pretty good, but when I gave up dairy that was not going to fly anymore. Even if you just make hot chocolate powder with water instead of milk, it still contains sneaky ingredients like powdered milk or modified whey. I began creating a df hot chocolate recipe about a year ago, but it is really difficult to get that nostalgic hot coco flavor without adding a mountain of sugar. After some trial and error, I have gotten my recipe right where I want it, and with the colder weather and rain finally arriving where I live I figure it is time to share the recipe with you!
1/4 cup Maple syrup
3/4 cup water
1/3 cup unsweetened coco powder
2 cups Almond Milk
1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
1. In a small saucepan heat the water, maple syrup, and coco powder at low-medium heat
2. Stir these ingredients together, make sure the powder completely dissolves (no clumps!)
3. After the chocolate mixture is slightly bubbling lower the heat and slowly mix in almond milk and add vanilla
4. Once the drink is thoroughly mixed and is at your desired temperature, remove from heat and serve!
Note: This recipe has a lot of room for adjustment, feel free to add less chocolate, more milk, or experiment with flavors! This recipe serves three, perfect for me and my two sisters.
